In what year did Jesus die?

Answer to the question The death of Jesus and the subsequent resurrection of Jesus are the most significant events in human history since the beginning of time.God used the death of Christ to reconcile people who had been ″alienated″ from Him because of sin and ″presentedholy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation″ (Colossians 1:21–22) those who had been ″alienated″ from Him because of sin.And God has compassionately ″given us new birth into a live hope″ as a result of Christ’s resurrection (1 Peter 1:3).The Bible does not provide us a specific date for Jesus’ death, as it does for the majority of the events it chronicles. We can, however, figure it out with a reasonable degree of precision.Despite the fact that the world’s chronological division is historically divided into BC (before Christ) and AD (anno domini—″in the year of our Lord″), Jesus Christ was really born between the years 6 and 4 BC, according to historical records.

It was Herod the Great’s death in 4 BC that led us to this date.Herod the Great served as procurator of Judaea from 47 BC until his death in 4 BC.After Herod’s death, Joseph and Mary with the child Jesus were ordered to return to Israel from Egypt, and this was ″after Herod died″ (Matthew 2:19).It is possible to identify the year in which Jesus died based on a variety of different criteria.

In light of the historical comment in Luke 3:1, which states that John began preaching in the fifteenth year of Tiberius’ reign, we estimate that John the Baptist began his ministry about AD 28 or 29, depending on the source. In the year AD 14, Tiberius was proclaimed emperor. In the event that Jesus was baptized and began His career somewhere in AD 29, and that He continued to minister for around three and a half years after that, the conclusion of Jesus’ mission would have occurred in AD 33.

  • Pontius Pilate is believed to have governed Judea between AD 26 and AD 36.
  • It has been determined that the crucifixion took place during a Passover (Mark 14:12), and this fact, together with the date on which John began his ministry, narrows the date of the crucifixion to April 3, AD 33.
  • There is also an argument for a more recent date (April 7, AD 30), which is based on the fact that John the Baptist’s ministry began more recently (and an assumed co-regency of Tiberias and Augustus).
  • The later date appears to be more in accord with the historical record of the situation.
  • Even while a great deal has transpired on the international stage since Christ’s time, nothing has ever surpassed the scope and significance of what occurred in AD 33—the death and resurrection of the Savior of the world.

We are in the End of 6000 years Since Creation

We have reached the conclusion of the 6000-year period since the beginning of time. We are preparing to enter the Millennium Reign of the United States of America. It is time to repent for the kingdom of god is at hand. God created for 6 days and rested on the 7th day, during which time he did the following:

  1. The six days of creation represent 6000 years since the beginning of time to the time when Jesus Christ comes to establish His reign on Earth.
  2. The seventh day is the Sabbath, which represents the 1000-year period during which Jesus Christ will reign on earth
  3. this is known as the Millennium Reign.

See the Genesis 7-day creation prophesy for more information (God 7000 years plan)

We are in the End of 6000 years since creation

The time span between Adam and Abraham is considered to be 2000 years. It is anticipated that it will take another 2000 years to go from Abraham to Jesus. It will take another 2000 years from the time of Jesus till His return. As a result, the time span between Adam’s creation and Jesus’ final return to the planet is 6000 years.Christ will return after 6000 years and govern for 1000 years, ending the millennium (the Millennium Reign).Because of God’s design, the world and heaven both reach the end of their allotted 7000 years, and immediately after this first earth and heaven pass away, a new earth and heaven are formed with Jesus Christ reigning eternally on the earth and in the heavens.

Rev 21:1 (NIV): After that, I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the previous heaven and the first earth had been destroyed, and there was no longer any sea.

When is the end of 6000 years since creation?

The temporal span between Abraham and Jesus is considered to be 2000 years. But what time period should we choose for Jesus?Do you want to know the date of His birth or the date of His death? The crucifixion of Jesus is the central theme of the whole Bible message.See what the gospel is all about.

The crucifixion was the place where mankind was saved, the evil kingdom was conquered, and the church was birthed, all at the same time.Take a look at what the church is.We measure time in relation to or from Jesus’ death on the cross, rather than in relation to His birth.

Because His death on the cross holds greater weight for the gospel than His birth, Passover must be observed with greater significance than Christmas Day in order to be really meaningful.Find out the truth behind Christmas Day in this video. The reason why Jews do not celebrate Christmas on December 25th but do so with great fervor on Passover (importance). The month of Passover has been used to calculate time (dates) from the days of Moses and the Israelites, and this has continued to the present day.Ex 12:2 (King James Version): This month will mark the beginning of the month for you, and it will also mark the beginning of the calendar year for you.Passover is the time of year when a lamb with no defect was slain and the blood of the lamb was applied on the doorposts and lintel of the house.

  • In Exodus 12:5, your lamb must be without blemish, a male of the first year; ye must take it from among the flocks of sheep or from the herds of goats.
  • After that, they would take the blood and hit it on the two side posts and the upper door post of the dwellings.
  • It was at this period that Israel was freed from Egyptian servitude.
  • Ex 12:26 and 27: And it will come to be that your children will ask you, ″What do you mean by this service?″ and you will respond, In order for you to declare, ″It is the LORD’s Passover, who passed over the homes of Israel when he destroyed the Egyptians and delivered our dwellings,″ you must first identify the sacrifice as the LORD’s Passover sacrifice.
  • A symbolic representation of the lamb who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29) and of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross, which freed humanity from its servitude.
  • When the Messiah is cut off from the world, time appears to come to a halt in Daniel’s 70-week prophesy.
  • Furthermore, the 70-week period between Israel and Jerusalem begins before the final seven weeks of the great tribulation.
  • The time span between the two periods is known as the church-age.
  • See Daniel’s prophesy of 70 weeks for further information on the church age.
  • After Jesus’ death on the cross, a chasm is created.
  • That the old has come to an end and a new has begun.
  • Jesus’ death on the cross marks the beginning and the end of time.
  • As a result, while counting the remaining 2000 years, we begin from the moment Jesus (God) was crucified.
  • As a result, it is projected that it will take 2000 years from the moment Jesus was crucified until He returns.
  • The Bible is quiet regarding the day Jesus was crucified, although it does provide some hints as to what happened that day.

The Bible experts all believe that Jesus died on the cross between the years 28 and 33 AD, according to the New Testament. We can arrive at the year 2028 if we take the year 28 AD as the year in which Jesus died on the cross and add the remaining 2000 years to that date (the year for the end of 6000 years since creation). In conclusion, I would like to say Jesus died on the crucifixion in the year 28 AD.Years elapsed between Jesus’ death on the cross and the conclusion of the 6000-year period since creation: 2000 years have passed since the beginning of time. The year in which 6000 years since the beginning of time come to a close (28 AD plus 2000 years) is the year 2028.This corresponds exactly with the year 2028, which is the year in which the fig tree generation will come to an end.

Observe the fig tree generation; this is the generation that will not pass away.Take the year 33 AD as the year Jesus died on the cross and add the remaining 2000 years, we arrive at the year 2033, according to the Gregorian calendar. In conclusion, I would like to say The year when Jesus died on the cross was 33 AD.

Years elapsed between Jesus’ death on the cross and the conclusion of the 6000-year period since creation: 2000 years have passed since the beginning of time. The year 2033 will mark the conclusion of 6000 years since the beginning of time (33 AD plus 2000 years). As a result, the conclusion of the 6000-year period from the beginning of time will occur between the years 2028 and 2033, and Jesus Christ will return for the Battle of Armageddon and to establish His 1000-year rule.

Because the conclusion of the 6000-year period since the beginning of time is between the years 2028 and 2033, the rapture and the beginning of the great tribulation are likely to occur between the years 2021 and 2026.The five-year gap between 2028 and 2033 is represented by the year 2028.The reason I said that there may be a +5-year error margin in the projected years of fig tree production is because of the way the fig tree generation is computed.Whatever day you choose to commemorate as Jesus’ death on the cross, May 14th, 1948, is the established date for Israel’s establishment as a sovereign nation, the date on which the fig tree first sprouted.

How many years are remaining to the end of 6000 years since creation?

According to our estimations, the 6000 years since creation will come to an end between the years 2028 and 2033.There are 14 years left until the year 2028 (i.e., from 2028 to 2014).The number of years left till the year 2033 (2033 – 2014) is 19 years. As a result, starting today In 2014, it is estimated that 14 to 19 years remain till the conclusion of the 6000-year period since the beginning of time. And it is estimated that between 7 and 12 years will go between the rapture and the commencement of the great tribulation.

All of the calculated years in this study, as well as the production of fig trees, are best guesses.Even if they are mistakes, the years provide us with the opportunity to see them through to completion. That you are witnessing four blood moons in the year 2014-2015, which are before the rapture, signs and wonders before the coming of Jesus Christ, and everything promised in the Bible that is being fulfilled so quickly leading up to the return of Jesus Christ is not a coincidence.

It has been shown to me that Antichrist is alive and well at this very moment, rising to take his promised place and lead the world to the great tribulation and Armageddon conflict, as foretold.See, the Antichrist’s dominion has been shown to me.Indeed, we have reached the conclusion of the 6000-year period since the beginning of time.Jesus is on his way.Daniel’s sage advice The same way that Daniel understood the number of years defined by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet that He would complete seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem (Dan 9:2), I comprehend the number of years stated by the same writings for all to be accomplished (Matt 24:36).The return of the Son of Man is not something I am attempting to predict in any way, shape, or form, but I am revealing the season in which He will come, and all prophecies will be fulfilled during this season.

  • Because we, the children of light, are aware of the season in which Jesus Christ will come.
  • But no one, not even the angels of heaven, is aware of that day and hour, save for my Father alone (Mt 24: 36) We now know that there are 14 to 19 years left till the conclusion of the 6000-year period since the beginning of time.
  • We do not, however, know the day or the hour of Jesus Christ’s second coming.
  • Wake up and keep an eye out for Jesus Christ, who should not return as a thief to you.
  • Rev 3:3 (NIV): Take note of how you have received and heard, then hold firm to your convictions and repent.
  • If you do not keep an eye on things, I will come upon you like a thief, and you will have no way of knowing what time I will arrive on the scene.
  • Pay attention to Christians.
  • Jesus Christ is not coming as a thief, but rather as a king.
  • In the same way that Jesus informed me, ″I AM COMING,″ I tell you that Jesus is coming!
  • It is time to repent since the Kingdom of Heaven is at nigh.

How many years has it been since Jesus came and died on the cross.

As discussed below, a variety of approaches have been used to estimate the year of Jesus’ death, including information from the canonical gospels, information from the New Testament’s chronology of Paul the Apostle’s life correlated with historical events, and information from various astronomical models.Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea from 26 to 36 AD/CE, is credited with crucifying Jesus, according to the four gospels.According to the Jewish historian Josephus, who wrote in Antiquities of the Jews (c.93 AD/CE), and the early 2nd century Roman historian Tacitus, who wrote in The Annals (c.116 AD/CE), Pilate ordered Jesus’ death.

According to the most recent estimates of the date of Paul’s conversion, the death of Jesus occurred before this conversion, which is thought to have occurred about 33-36 AD.In order to determine the year of Paul’s conversion, we must work backwards from the well-established date of his trial before Gallio in Achaea, Greece, (Acts 18:12-17) around 51-52 AD/CE, the meeting with Priscilla and Aquila, who may have been expelled from Rome around 49 AD/CE, and the 14-year period before returning to Jerusalem in Galatians 2:1.The remainder of the time is largely accounted for by Paul’s missions, such as those recorded in Acts 11:25-26 and 2 Corinthians 11:23-33, resulting in the 33-36 AD/CE range being estimated by scholars.

Isaac Newton was one of the first astronomers to make an educated guess on the date of the crucifixion, and he proposed Friday, April 3, 34 AD/CE as the most likely date. The date was calculated by astronomer Bradley E.Schaefer in 1990 and was determined to be Friday, April 3, 33 AD/CE.A study conducted in 1991 found that Newton’s approach was sound, but that it included a slight inaccuracy at the conclusion.Pratt proposed the year 33 AD/CE as a possible solution.Humphreys and Waddington came to the conclusion that the crucifixion took place on Friday, April 3, 33 AD/CE by employing a lunar eclipse model, which was an entirely new method from the previous approach.

When Did Jesus Die? The Year, Day & Time

There has been much speculation concerning the day and year of Christ’s crucifixion and death, owing to the absence of clear day-to-day linkage in the stories of the four Gospels. We know that Jesus died on Preparation Day because it is mentioned in each of the four Gospel narratives. But was it a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday when that happened? In addition, what hour did Jesus die? There has even been discussion over the year in which he passed away.

To figure out the day of Jesus’ death on the cross, we must piece together the evidence from his four Gospels and our understanding of his historical period and cultural context.

Cultural Information to Keep in Mind

1.The gospel writers were more concerned with depicting Jesus as a person than they were with the precise chronology of his appearance.Dates have become increasingly important in today’s environment in order to provide proper news coverage. However, the Gospel authors were more concerned with the events themselves than they were with the precise date of the occurrences. They were attempting to introduce Jesus to a variety of audiences rather than providing a thorough biography.

It was the day before the Sabbath that was designated as the Day of Preparation. Each of the four Gospel narratives of Jesus’ death and burial mentions the Day of Preparation as a day of preparation. This is the day on which Jews prepared meals and completed all of the tasks that were prohibited from being completed on the Sabbath but that still needed to be completed.

Because Jews were required to refrain from working on the Sabbath at this time, Jesus’ companions made certain that he was buried before the Sabbath began on Friday at sunset.Visit THIS LINK to download your FREE 8-Day Prayer and Scripture Guide – Praying Through Holy Week (PDF).Create your own copy of this wonderful daily devotional to use in the weeks leading up to Easter.

What the Gospels Say about Jesus’ Burial

The Gospel of Matthew contains the most detailed account of Jesus’ death and burial (Matthew 27:31-62).In this tale, we learn about Joseph, a wealthy man from Arimathea who ″had himself become a follower of Jesus,″ according to the text (Matthew 27:57b).In Matthew 27:58-61, Joseph is said to have requested Pilate for permission to bury Jesus’ body. This is according to tradition.Later in Matthew 27:62, we find out that Joseph was successful in carrying out his plan on Preparation Day: ″The next day, the day after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.″ On Preparation Day, according to Mark’s account, Joseph buried his son Jesus.

In other words, ″it was Preparation Day″ (i.e., the day before the Sabbath).(Matthew 15:42 a.) … Joseph then went out and got some linen material, carried the corpse down and covered it in the linen before putting it in a tomb that he had dug out the rock. And he proceeded to roll a large stone against the tomb’s entrance″ (Mark 15:46).

Jesus’ death on the Day of Preparation is confirmed by the Gospels of Luke and John: ″Then he carried it down, covered it in linen cloth, and buried it in a tomb carved into the rock, in which no one had yet been lain.″ It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was just around the corner″ (Luke 23:54).The tomb was nearby, so they put Jesus there because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and because it was close by (John 19:42).

What Day Did Jesus Die? Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday?

  • Over the years, academics have developed a variety of hypotheses about what occurred during the days of the week preceding up to Jesus’ death on the cross. These versions each offer a different day for Christ’s death, such as Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Wednesday The fact that Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday permits for Him to have been buried for three full days and nights
  • nevertheless, this also means that He resurrected on the fourth day. Furthermore, the Triumphal Entry would have taken place on Saturday, which was a day of Sabbath rest
  • Thursday was a working day. With a Thursday crucifixion, the Triumphal Entry is moved to Sunday, which makes more sense and removes the necessity for a ″quiet day″ (a day during the Passion Week when no events were recorded). However, we do know that the Pharisees rushed to put Jesus in the tomb on The Day of Preparation (John 19:34-42), which was Friday, and before the Sabbath began at nightfall (the Jews measured days from nightfall to nightfall).
  • Friday was the Day of Preparation, which was Friday and before the Sabbath began at nightfall. Upon closer examination of the facts, we find that Friday is the most consistent with the Gospel narratives and the historical context. According to the New Testament, Jesus rose from the grave on the third day—not necessarily after three complete, literal days—and was buried on the third day (e.g., Matthew 16:21
  • Acts 10:40). As previously stated, Jesus had to be hustled inside the tomb on the day of preparation because of the crowds. In contrast to a Friday crucifixion, which would demand a ″quiet day″ (most likely Wednesday), this day gives the Sanhedrin the opportunity to make plans for Jesus’s arrest and following trials. As a result, the day is just ″quiet″ since we haven’t documented anything significant

What Time Did Jesus Die?

According to Matthew Henry’s interpretation, Jesus was nailed to the crucifixion between the third and sixth hours, which corresponds between nine and twelve o’clock in the morning. After then, he died shortly after the ninth hour, which was sometime between three and four o’clock in the afternoon.Commensurate with the aforementioned practice, the Jews throughout the time of Christ measured days from dusk to nightfall. So Bible scholars may convert the Matthew 27:46 KJV, which reads ″ninth hour,″ into the Matthew 27:46 NIV, which reads ″three o’clock in the afternoon,″ as a result of this.

Timing of Jesus Death in Mark, Luke, and John

  • Mark 15:33:34, 37, 38, 39 ″At midday, darkness descended across the entire region, lasting until three o’clock in the afternoon. Also, about three o’clock in the afternoon, Jesus said, ″Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?″ in an obnoxiously loud voice. (which translates as ‘My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?’). ″Jesus breathed his last with a piercing scream.″
  • Matthew 23:44-46 Because the sun had ceased shining, it was now around midday, and darkness fell over the entire region until three o’clock that afternoon. And the temple’s curtain was split in two by the earthquake. I put my spirit into your hands,’ Jesus said with a resounding voice, calling out to the Father. At the moment he stated this, he exhaled his final breath.″ (See also John 19:14-16.) ‘It was around midday on the day of Preparation of the Passover,’ I recalled. ‘Your king has arrived,’ Pilate said to the Jews. They, on the other hand, cried out, ″Take him away!″ Take him away from me! ‘Put him to death!’ ‘Do you want me to crucify your king?’ Pilate was the one who inquired. ‘We do not have a monarch other than Caesar,’ the leading priests responded. Eventually, Pilate gave him over to them, and they crucified him.”

What Year Did Jesus Die?

During this video, Doug Bookman, a New Testament professor at Shepherds Theological Seminary, shows why biblical academics have reached an agreement about the year Jesus died.″It all boils down to this…Pilate served as prefect of Judea and Samaria from 26 A.D.to 36 A.D., according to the evidence we have.So that’s our view out the window.

The following question is: On what day of the week did Passover occur during the year that Jesus died?In the opinion of the majority, it occurred on Thursday or Friday. From nightfall on Thursday till sundown on Friday, the event was taking place every day.

Given all of this, the vast majority of researchers will agree that it leads to one of two conclusions: ” Theory 1: Jesus died about the year 30 A.D.Theory 2: Jesus died around the year 33 A.D.″At this point, the argument becomes pretty technical,″ says Bookman of the situation.″With regard to every one of the chronological questions, there is a case to be formed on both sides of the argument,″ he continues.I am convinced that the year 33 A.D.″I teach the life of Jesus within the framework of that structure.″

3 Significant Events Shortly After Jesus’ Death

Matthew 27:51-54, Matthew 27:51-54 In that instant, the temple’s curtain was ripped in half from top to bottom. The ground trembled, the rocks cracked, and the tombs burst into flames. Many pious persons who had died were brought back to life by the power of the Holy Spirit. They emerged from the graves following Jesus’ resurrection and proceeded to the holy city, where they appeared to a large number of people. They were startled and cried, ″Surely he was the Son of God!″ when the centurion and others with him who were guarding Jesus witnessed the earthquake and everything that had transpired.

1.The temple curtain had been ripped in half. This curtain divided the temple’s worshipers from the Ark of the Covenant and its apex – the Mercy seat – where God would only meet with the High Priest once a year to accept an atonement sacrifice on the High Priest’s behalf.

We know from the laws of the Old Testament that entering God’s presence was a severe matter.Following the deaths of two men who attempted to approach the Lord in the wrong manner, the Lord provided Moses detailed instructions in Leviticus 16 on how to approach him without dying. The fact that this curtain was destroyed represented the completion of Jesus Christ’s accomplished work on the cross, which eliminated the barrier between sinful humans and holy God by becoming the ultimate High Priest and the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of all people.Furthermore, the fact that the curtain was torn ″from top to bottom″ represented that it had been torn by God himself, rather than by the efforts of any man or woman.2.An earthquake unsealed tombs, allowing deceased saints to be resurrected from their graves.

  • John Gill’s remark on the event states that ″this was a demonstration of Christ’s authority over death and the tomb.″ When Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his death, he demonstrated that he had destroyed both the power of death and the permanence of the grave.
  • ″These saints, I believe, remained on earth until our Lord’s ascension, and then, joining the entourage of angels, gloriously ascended with him to heaven, as trophies of his victory over sin, Satan, death, and the tomb,″ Gill added.
  • In addition to its grandiose claims, this event is noteworthy because it is a narrative predicting Christ’s second coming to collect the remainder of his people.
  • According to Matthew, this incident also fulfills a prophesy found in Isaiah 26:19, which reads, ″But your dead will live, LORD; their bodies will rise— let those who dwell in the dust awaken and cry for joy— your dew is like the dew of the dawn; the earth will give birth to her dead.
  • 3.
  • Jesus is brought back to life from the dead.
  • This paragraph in Matthew glosses over such a remarkable occurrence, but Christ’s resurrection is told in greater detail in Matthew 28, which is the book of Matthew (as well as in Mark 16, Luke 24, and John 20).

April 3, AD 33: Why We Believe We Can Know the Exact Date Jesus Died

In our book, The Final Days of Jesus: The Most Important Week of the Most Important Person Who Ever Lived, Justin Taylor and I make an educated guess as to the date of Jesus’ crucifixion, but we do not argue for or against it.For a variety of reasons, virtually all scholars believe that Jesus was crucified in the spring of either AD 30 or AD 33, with the majority preferring the former.(According to astronomical data, the years AD 27, 30, 33, and 34 are the most likely candidates.) However, we would want to present our case for the date of Friday, April 3, AD 33, as the precise day on which Christ died in our place as atonement for our sins.Simply said, the Bible does not establish the actual date of Jesus’ crucifixion, and it is not a salvation fact that must be understood as a matter of course. However, this does not rule out the possibility of understanding or importance.

In light of the fact that Christianity is a historical religion, and that the events of Christ’s life did indeed take place in human history alongside other well-known events, it is beneficial to situate Jesus’ death within the larger context of human history, to the extent that available evidence allows it to be done.No one makes this argument more forcefully than Luke, the Gentile physician who became a historian and inspired recorder of early Christianity. No other Gospel writer makes this point more forcefully than Luke.

The Year John the Baptist’s Ministry Began

When John the Baptist began his public ministry, Luke hints that it was a short time before Jesus’ public ministry began, and he provides us with a historical reference point for when the Baptist’s ministry began: ″In the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar…″ (See Luke 3:16).It is known from ancient Roman history that Tiberius succeeded Augustus as emperor on August 19, AD 14 and was approved by the Roman Senate on the same day.He reigned until the year AD 37.″The fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar’s reign″ appears to be a straightforward date, but there are some ambiguities, beginning with when one begins the calculation.″The fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar’s reign″ appears to be a straightforward date, but there are some ambiguities, beginning with when one begins the calculation.

Depending on who you ask, Tiberius’ reign was most likely counted from the day he assumed office in AD 14 or from January 1 of the following year, AD 15.When Tiberius’ ″fifteenth year″ began, it might have begun as early as August 19, AD 28, and it may have finished as late as December 31, AD 29, depending on the date of his death. As a result, John the Baptist’s ministry began somewhere between the middle of AD 28 and the beginning of AD 29.

The Year Jesus’s Ministry Began

Because the Gospels appear to suggest that Jesus began his ministry not long after John, the most likely date for Jesus’ baptism would be late in AD 28 at the absolute earliest, according to the calculations above.Because a few months presumably transpired between John’s career and Jesus’ ministry (and the year AD 30 being the earliest conceivable date), it is more plausible to situate it sometime in the first half of AD 29, rather than later in that year.As a result, Jesus’ career must have began somewhere between the end of AD 28 and the beginning of AD 30 at the earliest. This is consistent with Luke’s statement that ″Jesus, at the time of his entry into the ministry, was around thirty years of age″ (Luke 3:23).The most plausible dates for Jesus’ birth are 6 or 5 BC, which means he would have been roughly thirty-two to thirty-four years old in late AD 28 to late AD 30.

This comes well within the range of ″about thirty years of age″ that the Bible specifies.

The Length of Jesus’s Ministry

  • To determine how long Jesus’ public ministry lasted, we must first determine how long Jesus’ public ministry lasted. If Jesus’ public ministry lasted two or more years, it appears that the spring of AD 30 cannot be considered as a plausible date for the crucifixion. The Gospel of John records that Jesus attended at least three (possibly four) Passovers, which were held once a year in the spring and were as follows: He observed three Passovers during his public ministry: one in Jerusalem at the beginning of his public ministry (John 2:13–23)
  • one in Galilee midway through his public ministry (John 6:4)
  • and one in Jerusalem at the conclusion of his public ministry, that is, at the time of his crucifixion (John 11:55–12:1).
  • And it’s possible that Jesus attended another Passover that wasn’t reported in the Gospel of John, but was documented in one or more of the Synoptic Gospels (i.e., Matthew, Mark, and Luke)

This would make a date of a.d.30 all but impossible as the date of Jesus’ crucifixion, even if there were only three Passovers in all.As previously stated, the earliest possible date for the beginning of Jesus’ career, according to Luke 3:1, is late in the first century AD.The first of these Passovers (which occurred at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry; John 2:13) would happen on Nisan 15 in the year 29 (since Nisan is in March/April, around the beginning of a year), which would be the first of these Passovers in the year 29.The second would occur at the earliest in the year 30 a.d., and the third would occur at the earliest in the year 31 a.d.

If Jesus’ ministry corresponded with at least three Passovers, and if the first Passover occurred in AD 29, this suggests that he could not have been executed in ad 30, as previously thought.Assuming, however, that John the Baptist began his career in AD 29, it is reasonable to assume that Jesus began his mission in late AD 29 or early ad 30.The Passovers in the book of John would then take place on the following dates:

Jesus Was Crucified on the Day of Preparation for the Passover

It is also mentioned by the apostle John that Jesus was crucified on ″the day of Preparation″ (John 19:31), which corresponds to the Friday before the Sabbath of the Passover week (Mark 15:42).Earlier in the day, on Thursday evening, Jesus had a Passover meal with the Twelve (Mark 14:12), which is referred to as his ″Last Supper.″ Passover always falls on the fifteenth day of Nisan (Exodus 12:6), according to the Pharisaic-rabbinic calendar that was generally used in Jesus’ day.According to this calendar, Passover begins on Thursday after sundown and finishes on Friday after nightfall.Because Nisan 15 fell on April 3 in the year a.d.33, the year in which the crucifixion is most likely to have occurred, the most likely date for Jesus’ crucifixion is April 3 in the year a.d.

33, also known as the year of Jesus’ crucifixion. As a result, in The Final Days of Jesus, we created the following chart to depict the dates of Jesus’ final week in a.d.33, which is seen below:

Conclusion

The computations in the preceding section may look difficult, but in a nutshell, the reasoning goes as follows: While this is, in our opinion, the most plausible scenario, it should be noted that many people think Jesus was killed in the year AD 30, rather than the year AD 33, as we have said. If, on the other hand, the beginning of Tiberius’ rule is set at the year AD 14, it becomes nearly difficult to fit fifteen years of Tiberius’ reign and three years of Jesus’ ministry between AD 14 and AD 30, as is the case.As a result, some have speculated that Tiberius and Augustus shared co-regency (combined rule) during the last few years of Augustus’ reign.Such co-regency, on the other hand, is not supported by solid ancient historical data.As a result, we believe that Jesus was most likely crucified on April 3, AD 33, as previously stated.

While different dates may be feasible, Christians may take great comfort in the fact that the most important historical events in Jesus’ life, like as the crucifixion, are firmly rooted in human history and cannot be changed.Because of this, when we celebrate Easter and walk with Jesus every day of the year, we may be certain that our faith is founded not just on subjective personal confidence, but also on solid historical evidence, which makes our faith a perfectly rational faith. The original version of this story published on First Things on April 3, 2014.

Crossway’s executive vice president and publisher for books, Justin Taylor, holds this position.Andreas Köstenberger and he have written a book titled The Final Days of Jesus: The Most Important Week of the Most Important Person Who Ever Lived, which is available on Amazon (Crossway, 2014).

HAVE 2,000 YEARS PASSED SINCE THE BIRTH OF JESUS?

Luxury hotels in New York are already organizing New Year’s Eve events that will cost $1,000 per guest to ring in the new millennium. One other side of the world, in New Zealand, the Millennium Adventure Co.has secured the rights to the world’s ″first light,″ which will take place on the slopes of Mount Hakepa on Pitt Island, about 745 miles southeast of Christchurch, on the eastern edge of the international date line and just east of it.The majority of people will be celebrating the beginning of the third millennium after Christ’s birth when the clock strikes midnight on December 31, 1999, despite the fact that there was no year zero and that the Roman calendar ended up with the nice round number of 2000.Scholars who have long maintained that Jesus was born earlier than the accepted date, however, believe that the third millennium has already begun to be observed.

In the opinion of one academic who has done substantial investigation into the date of the first Christmas, Christians may have only missed the true date by a few days.Using historical data from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, historian Paul Maier calculates that Jesus was most likely born in November or December of the year 5 BCE.2,000 years ago, it was most likely during this season that the baby who would transform the world was born, says Maier, the author of ″In the Fullness of Time.″ ″This Christmas, then, represents the kind of jubilee that just one generation in thirty gets the opportunity to commemorate.″ Many of the scholars who have attempted to pinpoint the exact date of Jesus’ b
